De Binnenpoort of Lanxmeerpoort uit 1318 is de enig overgebleven stadspoort. Toen de aangrenzende nederzetting Lanxmeer ommuurd werd en bij de oude stadskern getrokken werd (Nieuwstad), verviel de functie als echte stadspoort. In 1557 werd de poort verhoogd en voorzien van een omgang en spits met koepeltje.
